Justice, Equity and Fairness

Last updated: 18 July 2026

Justice, Equity and Fairness (JEF) are embedded in the VTA Framework that guides MT1L and VAxAI. This policy explains what that means in practice.

More than one label

VAxAI is a service provided by MT1L, short for More Than 1 Label. The name reflects our belief that people, and the organisations they belong to, are not defined by a single label. They are complex, layered and shaped by many experiences, and we work within that complexity.

We are committed to treating everyone with dignity and respect, meeting our responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 and going beyond compliance.

Justice, Equity and Fairness

Everything we do is guided by JEF (Justice, Equity and Fairness). Rather than sitting alongside the VTA Framework, JEF is embedded within it. It shapes the questions we ask about Value, Trust and Alignment, ensuring decisions are considered not only in terms of organisational outcomes, but also their impact on people.

For VAxAI, this means asking:

  • Who benefits?
  • Who carries the risk?
  • Whose needs and working realities have been considered?
  • Who might be excluded, disadvantaged or placed under greater pressure?
  • What would make the support fair, practical and trusted?

JEF is not limited to representation or participation. It is about how support is designed, who it affects and whether the outcomes can be justified in practice. This thinking underpins how we deliver admin support, clear backlogs, prepare organisations for AI and automation, and work with collaborators.

Social mobility

Social mobility matters to us, and we are deliberate about what we mean by it. We define social mobility as:

The process by which individuals receive genuine, fair opportunities to improve their socio-economic status, regardless of their starting point in life and the characteristics and experiences that shape their identity.

We recognise that AI and automation are changing the future of work, and that these changes do not affect everyone equally. Administrative roles are often among the areas most discussed when organisations consider automation. At the same time, these roles provide valuable opportunities for people to gain experience, develop transferable skills and begin their careers.

Through MT1L, we support organisations to apply the VTA Framework so they can use technology responsibly while recognising the continued value of human administrative support. VAxAI puts this thinking into practice by helping organisations strengthen their administrative foundations, improve processes and access practical human support alongside technology.

We are also committed to creating accessible pathways into freelance virtual assistance. By supporting people to develop skills, gain experience and contribute to real projects, we aim to open flexible work opportunities while helping organisations access the practical support they need.

For us, social mobility is not only about creating new opportunities. It is also about ensuring that decisions about technology and the future of work consider who is affected, whose opportunities may change and what can be done to create fairer pathways forward.

How this shows up in our work

In practice, this means we aim to:

  • keep asking “for whom?” throughout our work, so that value and fairness are considered together
  • understand the client’s real working conditions, capacity and challenges before recommending changes to processes or introducing technology
  • recognise that smaller organisations, charities and founders may face different barriers due to limited resources, capacity or budgets
  • consider accessibility and different ways of working, including the needs of neurodivergent professionals and teams
  • avoid assuming that technology is always the best answer, and start with understanding the work itself
  • identify where AI and automation can create value while recognising where human administrative support remains essential
  • help clients build organised information, clearer workflows and stronger foundations for responsible AI and automation
  • challenge approaches that risk embedding, amplifying or obscuring existing inequalities

Our own practice

Within our own operations we aim to:

  • price our services in a way that does not systematically exclude smaller organisations or those with limited budgets
  • be transparent about how we work and who we are
  • engage collaborators on the basis of their skills, values and fit for the work, not background, characteristics or connections
  • keep our own use of AI fair, transparent and subject to human oversight. See our AI Use Policy

Accessibility

Inclusion includes how you experience this website. We aim to write in plain language and to design for accessibility. Every page offers an Accessibility panel, allowing you to switch to a high-contrast simplified view, increase text size, reduce motion and apply dyslexia-friendly spacing.

These options are available via the Accessibility button in the bottom corner of every page.

If you find anything difficult to use, please tell us so we can improve it: hello@mt1l.com.

Our ongoing commitment

This work is never finished. We keep listening, learning and improving, and we welcome challenge.

We review this policy and our practice regularly, and we will update it as our work and understanding develops. If you have feedback on this policy or how we work, please email hello@mt1l.com.

How this reflects the VTA Framework

The VTA Framework asks whether something creates meaningful Value, can be Trusted by the people it affects, and fits the client’s reality through Alignment.

Justice, Equity, Fairness and social mobility are not separate from that test. They are embedded within it.

Value requires asking who benefits and who may be left behind. Trust requires people to understand what is being introduced, how it affects them and where human support remains available. Alignment requires understanding whether the support fits the client’s capacity, tools, confidence and ways of working.

That is why JEF sits within VAxAI’s approach: because better support depends not only on what is possible, but on what is fair, practical and trusted.
