The professional standards
What working as an independent VA actually requires
These aren’t VAxAI’s rules. They’re what any professional VA carries — and what any serious client, including us, will expect when they contract you. If you’re starting out, this is the list to work towards. If you’re established, you’ll already have most of it.

Based in the UK with the right to work here
If you're applying for our client projects. Not required if you only want a profile.
Set up as self-employed with HMRC, or operating through a limited company
Client work is paid to a business, not to an individual. This is your set-up, and yours to maintain — no one else can do it for you.
Professional Indemnity insurance — arranged and kept current by you
You're responsible for your own cover. This is your protection as much as the client's, and it's what lets you take on work with confidence. When we contract you for a VAxAI project, we'll ask you to confirm it's in place — but you should hold it whether you ever work with us or not. Any serious client will ask the same.
A reliable computer, stable high-speed internet, and a quiet professional workspace
You'll be handling other people's systems and inboxes during working hours.
Proven discretion, professionalism and attention to detail
You'll be working with things people don't want shared.
Experience handling confidential or sensitive information in a professional setting
Often you'll have access to systems, data and inboxes that aren't yours.
Not in the UK?
You’re very welcome here. Create a profile, get found by clients directly, submit articles for review, and join our open training. The UK standards only apply to VAxAI-commissioned client work, which we can only contract in the UK for now.
Insurance matters wherever you are
Any independent VA should hold Professional Indemnity insurance. It covers you if a client says your work caused them a loss. Look for cover that includes data and confidentiality breaches, legal defence costs, and a limit that matches the size of the clients you work with.

Working with clients directly
VAxAI introduces people. When we commission you for a VAxAI-managed project, we contract with you, set the scope, and take responsibility for that engagement.
When a client finds you through your profile and contacts you directly, that’s between you and them. We’re not involved. We don’t vet the client, we don’t manage the project, and we can’t take responsibility for how it goes.
That means you should: check who you’re working with, agree terms and payment in writing, arrange your own insurance and contracts, and use your judgement. Clients should do the same on their side.
We’re here for the work we commission. Everything else is yours to run.
